About

The Barn on Hyder Creek was Built more than a century ago in the foothills of Otsego County, NY -just 12 miles north of Cooperstown. Located in the hamlet of Richfield Springs, the barn has served many purposes through the years and to the credit of a local young woman who saw the magic and potential in this special place, it has now been restored into a beautiful venue.

Wanting to preserve the history of the barn and breathe life into their local community, inspiration was followed by perspiration as she and her husband, alongside extended family and friends worked tirelessly to restore the barn. Their long hours surely mirrored the efforts of 19th century craftsmen who took pride in their work as an enduring reflection of their character, their faith and their love of one another. If you are searching for a truly authentic barn venue full of history, character and charm, The Barn on Hyder Creek is the place!

Come Pass the day or evening in our 4,200 square foot barn, admire its magnificent craftsmanship, with a history of its own, fill the rafters of our great barn with love,  laughter and joy because it truly is a special place to celebrate! Walk hand-in-hand with family and friends  along our 70-foot covered deck at sunset … and dance the night away under the lights of our handmade grapevine spheres.

Nearby, The sandy retreat known forever as “Bakers Beach”, enhanced  by a pavilion to welcome guests, offers a great location for rehearsal dinners or a barbeque by the lake.  The public Canadarago Lake state boat launch offers prime waterfront photo opportunities.

Situated on 65-acres the property offers beautiful views of the countryside surrounding Canadarago Lake, Guests who visit the property will cross over Hyder Creek from the parking area on a newly constructed covered bridge to enter the barn. Those who cross the bridge are for a moment in time linked not only to the Susquehanna River but Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic itself. “Barns represent a way of life that is vanishing.  I believe that all social and economical inequalities disappear inside a barn.  People marvel at the structure and I believe they are hanging on to this beauty.”  (Danielle French)
